02 / RISK & ANALYSIS

Understand the asset.
Challenge the case.

Go deeper when a project needs more than a record. Use the database context to assess resource conditions, technology, infrastructure, counterparties and delivery. Compare assumptions through development and operation; add commercial or financing scenarios where they are relevant.

THE RISK COMPASS

Six dimensions.
One connected assessment.

The score gives you a starting point. The dimensions show where to investigate. Select one to inspect its indicators and evidence. Higher means more robust — not a higher probability of success.

1–100. Higher means more robust.A strong overall score can still hide a weak dimension. Select one to look closer.

Strong resource does not remove a grid constraint or a fragile infrastructure dependency.

Higher means stronger assessed robustness — not a probability of failure.

Fictional scores and illustrative weights. The centre is a weighted summary, not an 80% probability of success. Weights: 20 / 20 / 15 / 15 / 10 / 20%. Criteria vary by phase. Real assessments require validated models, evidence-quality checks and review of weak or missing inputs.

RESOURCE. PERFORMANCE. PROJECT PHASE.

Less wind.
Or a weaker asset?

The same drop in output can have very different causes. Lower resource, equipment downtime and grid curtailment require different responses. A score should open that investigation, not replace it.

RESOURCE-ADJUSTED PERFORMANCE

Different locations.
A meaningful comparison.

A Danish wind farm may generate more than a Spanish one without performing better. Compare actual delivery with a modelled expectation for the conditions and equipment at each site.

  1. Establish the baseline.Resource conditions, equipment and comparable periods.
  2. Find the deviation.Delivered energy against expected output, with uncertainty.
  3. Investigate the cause.Availability, losses, curtailment and operating evidence.

ERA5 and other resource inputs inform the baseline. Weather reanalysis alone cannot establish an equipment fault or a grid restriction. Diagnosis needs operating evidence.

CRITICAL DEPENDENCIES / LIFECYCLE

One weak assumption.
A different project case.

A good average cannot compensate for an unavailable grid connection. A strong contractor matters differently before completion and after a guarantee expires. Assess the dependency in the phase where it matters.

Keep the six dimensions consistent while changing the relevant evidence and phase weights. Inspect critical weaknesses separately from the composite — and test combined stresses, not only one input at a time.

Separate changes in the asset from changes in the assessment method. Comparisons need aligned assumptions, periods and model versions.

TIME MACHINE / TEST THE ASSUMPTIONS

Change the assumptions.
See what follows.

An assessment shows where to investigate. A scenario tests the consequences. Try one financial example below: lower production at a single asset and inspect the effect on debt coverage. Fictional inputs; this calculation does not change the compass above.

WHAT THE EXAMPLE SHOWS

Start with the assumptions, not just the headline ratio.

Financial inputs are attached to named assets. Missing or unverified inputs should be resolved before relying on an analysis.

READ THE METHOD

Keep the evidence
beside the score.

What does 80 out of 100 mean? +

In the demonstration, 80 is a weighted summary of 18 fictional indicators across six dimensions. It is not an 80% probability of success, a credit rating or an investment recommendation. The dimensions use illustrative weights of 20 / 20 / 15 / 15 / 10 / 20%. Inspect weaker indicators even when the composite looks strong.

Missing evidence and uncertainty +

Missing evidence is not low risk. Production assessments require explicit treatment of applicability, source confidence, uncertainty and critical-risk overrides. The populated demonstration does not establish production calibration or model validation.

Which calculations are live on this page? +

The financial scenario calculates simplified annual debt coverage in your browser using fixed fictional inputs. It does not call the production modelling engine. The compass is a separate illustrative assessment, not a result of that financial scenario.

How does the assessment carry forward? +

Digital Twin is the continuing project view; Time Machine supports history and scenario analysis. Configured agents can gather relevant new evidence for the next review. Model updates and proposed actions need the permissions and review rules agreed for your workflow.
